Anfield Online verdict:

When the unknown Sami Hyypia arrived at Anfield thanks to Gerard Houllier, Liverpool fans were worried. Hysen, Piechnik, Kozma had all been and gone - was Hyypia another dud. No. Hyypia was another Hansen - and with Henchoz formed an unbeatable partnership which turned Liverpool from one of the clumsiest defences of the Premiership in to one of the meanest in Europe. His role in Liverpool's magnificent treble season cannot be understated.

An ever present, and ever reliable figure - Sami has recently relinquished the club captaincy but remains as one of the two vice captains.
